Case Study: Karen J-F
Introduction
I’m Karen, and I’m an analytics translator.
Passionate about making data more accessible to everyone in the business and helping data analytics teams thrive, I currently work as a Data Product Manager. Supporting others in their career aspirations is important to m, so in my spare time I mentor data professionals, and host and produce the Women in Data Podcast.
When I first met Michelle I had a busy, stressful and unfulfilling role. I have always been passionate about supporting the people in my team and women who work in data to thrive in their careers. When Michelle asked what would make me thrive, it made me stop and think about what I was doing, and what I wanted to achieve. I knew wasn’t thriving and knew something had to change.
Navigating a career nowadays isn't easy especially post-pandemic when uncertainty seems to have become the norm. The rise of generative AI also added a layer. I personally feel a lot of pressure to succeed at work and at home, and in my side hustle.
Working with a career coach is for me a way to define and reach my goals, without losing my mind in the process, but also to pause, think things through, and find solutions to problems.
I chose Michelle for two main reasons. The first one is that her coaching style provides a safe space where I can reflect deeply and figure things out. When stuck, she kindly asks if she can offer a suggestion, or replay what she's heard. It's a space with no judgment, where you feel heard and supported.
The second reason is that Michelle works in data just like me. This means she fully understands some of the challenges I'm facing.
Since starting working with Michelle, I've gained a lot of clarity on who I am today as a data professional, what direction I want to go towards, and what my priorities are.
Prior to working with Michelle I left a role that was more stressful than fulfilling. Since then I have worked on a 6 month contract that enabled me to develop AI skills. I was then approached by a well-known UK retailer where I have been able to craft my own role description. Michelle has helped me plan what success looks like for the crucial first 90 days in the role. I’m thoroughly enjoying the work I do.
I am better at navigating stress and feelings of overwhelm which makes a huge difference in my life.
I highly recommend working with Michelle.
She will provide you with a safe space for reflection and expertly guide you through problem-solving. Having worked with other coaches in the past, I believe that Michelle's experience in data and digital makes a significant difference in coaching us through a career in data.
Moreover, Michelle is kind, easy to talk to, and very supportive. Making it easy to share with her.

As a highly experienced and well coached individual, I was interested in coaching with Michelle although my expectations were limited on the outcome. I could not have been more wrong!
Michelle has given me access to a different type of energy and power. Whilst I have often felt very confident when setting my boundaries, it was not as consistent as I would have liked, particularly in my home life! I think we can all relate to that.
As a result of my time with Michelle, I ensure that my needs are met and that despite a busy and stressful career, I delegate in and out of work to ensure that I take better care of my health and personal time.

Michelle was recommended to me by a close friend and the ethos and principles of One of Many really appealed to me. I had recently been made redundant and as a 56-year-old, my confidence had really taken a hit and I felt I needed help to regain my confidence and put myself in a strong position to continue developing my career.
I’ve had a course of 12 sessions with Michelle now, she’s been very calm and patient with me and has helped me understand the tool kit that the PowerTypesTM provide you with - not only has this helped me in the secondment role I took on but, a surprise to me, it’s really helped with my relationship with my partner too - the coaching encouraged me to understand myself but also my partner.
I’m going to continue with the coaching as I want to deepen my understanding of the Power Types so that I can more readily access them and understand when I need to access them. Thank you Michelle!

Michelle has been wonderful, and our coaching sessions have been a huge support in the lead up to, and completion of, my progression into a new role at work.
The pace of our sessions were comfortable, and we were able to revisit anything I felt I needed to go back over. Each tool Michelle has shared with me has helped me to achieve my short-term goals and get me back on track to achieving my long-term goals too.
I feel more focused and the use of the PowerTypes has been truly insightful and instrumental in planning ahead more constructively, especially when starting new projects. I’ve almost had a reorganisation of my own mind, with new techniques to help me prioritise; including prioritising me!

I have a newfound confidence and self belief which just needed nurturing.

At the time I reached out to Michelle, I was stepping into a leadership role that I just didn't feel equipped for. My confidence and abilities were in question in my mind, and as much as it was my passion, I was terrified.
Michelle helped me understand the power I had within me, and that any situation I came up against just required me to step into a different type of power. She helped me make this process feel natural to me and gave me so many tools to help me lead myself into a place of purpose.
My confidence bloomed with Michelle's support and 9 months later I was presented an award for the work I had done in that leadership role.
My time with Michelle was truly lifechanging.

Michelle has guided me to find what's most important to me in a workplace and in a role. She isn't trying to turn me into someone else; instead, she has encouraged me to deeply think about what I am passionate about, what I want to achieve, and why.
She's helped me understand the importance of knowing the different personas we channel in the workplace and how to leverage the one that's right for each situation, as well as the impact of an imbalance between those personas. This insight has helped me navigate situations on an almost daily basis.
I started working with Michelle at a crucial point in my career. I was questioning if working in Tech and Data teams was something I wanted to continue. Through Michelle's coaching, I've identified the cornerstone of an effective role for me and have gained fresh energy to approach my work."

Working with Michelle was a dream start to finish. Her open style allowed me to really understand the drivers of where I could become more fulfilled and she ensured that I stayed on track, towards that goal without allowing other topics to distract.

I looked forward to our sessions and by the end of our agreed period, I felt equipped to continue on my journey independently, using the techniques Michelle had taught me.

After our sessions concluded, I could enter new challenges with a confidence that I didn't have before and I am more fulfilled and happy than I have ever been!

Would recommend to friends and family
